The Sebastian Christmas Trail Ride is scheduled to take place on Saturday to bring gifts for children in need.
Juan Tovar, organizer of the event, said horseback riders from Harlingen, Santa Rosa, Rio Hondo and other nearby communities will begin at the Harlingen Storage and Mini Warehouse at 3102 N. Business 77. The 12-mile ride will begin at 10 a.m.
“We’ll head north going across Loop 499, continuing on the frontage road until we get to Combes, to the Valero Truck Stop, and there’ll be other riders there,” Tovar said. “From there we’ll continue going north on the frontage road until we get to Sebastian.”
Among the riders will be a truck carrying bicycles and other gifts donated by people from the community, some of them by public officials. Once in Sebastian, the riders will join up with the 15th annual Sebastian Christmas Parade. Once the parade arrives at Sebastian Baseball Park, the gifts will be handed out or raffled off, Tovar said.
“We take all this and we distribute it in Sebastian to all the kids there,” he said. “If you were there, you would see so many kids that are there that are so appreciative and really enjoy the parade.”
There will also be plenty of food at the park where people will be cooking chicken plates and other dishes.
