Brownsville Chamber of Commerce

Brownsville — both its climate and its people — are warm and welcoming, and it’s an ideal city to call home, whether as a young professional, a family starting out, or a retiree looking for an active lifestyle in a great climate.

With a population quickly approaching 200,000, Brownsville, Texas is the largest city in the Rio Grande Valley.South Padre Island, a popular recreational spot, is minutes away, as is sister city Matamoros, just across the Rio Grande River in Mexico. The Brownsville-Matamoros area is a fusion of two cultures and languages that make this a unique place.  Both cities are historically rich and passionate about the arts, culture, and education.

In more than 160 years of Brownsville history, the city has endured numerous challenges: hurricanes, freezes, droughts and economic recessions. But progress has gained momentum in the 21st century. Competing with over 40 Texas communities, the Imagine Brownsville Comprehensive Plan received the 2009 Comprehensive Planning Award from the American Planning Association’s Texas chapter. The strategic plan, carefully developed with input from citizens, planning experts and numerous city organizations, defines a vision for the community for the next 20 years and establishes an implementation strategy for achieving long-term goals. United Brownsville, a partnership of various local entities, works as the backbone organization to implement this comprehensive plan and guides our community to set goals, monitor and enable collective impact.
